Like many young Afghan women, Ludmillah Khamosh wanted to work in television. She started her  journalism career as a news presenter at Tolo TV, Afghanistan's first privately-owned commercial television station. Established in 2004, Tolo TV’s western format, programming and investigative reports have made it extremely popular, especially among young Afghans. For the same reasons, it has been the target for criticism and threats from anti-democratic forces. Since its creation, privately-owned commercial television stations have sprung up across the country. (Ludmillah is now living in Canada as a refugee.)
