Photographer and journalist Lisa Schnellinger has published a wide range of work in US and international publications since 1980, from textured abstract photographs to investigative reporting and travel essays. Photography has always been entwined in her career as an editor, writer, and journalism trainer, and in recent years has become her core medium of communication and personal expression. Lisa has conducted workshops, coached and mentored hundreds of individuals in 20 countries on every aspect of written and visual journalism, including work in Afghanistan since 2002.
An exhibit of her Afghanistan photography, “Beyond the Mountains,” is on display in North Georgia. Lisa was a founder and remains an adviser to Pajhwok, a national Afghan-owned news agency, which was an outgrowth of a program training individual journalists there. She also raises funds to support a girls’ school in a village in Logar, southeast of Kabul. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in journalism from Kent Station University (Ohio) and Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Washington.
