In 2004, when Humaira Habib was threatened by authorities and told she could never again work as a journalist in Afghanistan's western province of Herat, close to Iran, she fought for her rights and became Director of Radio Sahar in the province's capital city. She later became a member of the first-ever class to graduate from Herat University’s Department of Journalism. After spending ten months in Montreal as a Sauvé Scholar at McGill University in 2007/08, she returned to Herat and to her job as Director.
